Industry Tip #5

PATIENCE IS KEY.

Being goal-oriented and driven when it comes to success is very important for an artist in order to get them where they want to go. Many times, however, people are far too aggressive with people they are working with. Sometimes, patience is key. Yes, you should take opportunities that come up that can benefit your band. You should not, however, bombard the promoter with emails, harass a booking agent, or come off as straight up annoying. Wait for a follow up email or phone call. If the person is interested in working with you, they will let you know!

Industry Tip #4

EMAIL ETIQUETTE: DON’T OVERLOOK IT.

Too often do promoters, labels, graphic designers, and press agents get poorly spelled, grammatically incorrect emails from musicians. It’s the perfect way to get your email sent straight to the trash. Stay ahead of the game by making sure your emails are on point in terms of spelling, grammar, and format. Some important things to remember: get to the point, appear grateful, and use your “pleases” and “thank yous”. Politeness goes a long way!

Industry Tip #3

BANDS, DON’T COUNT ON FACEBOOK.

Facebook “likes” don’t mean much. What matters is that you do your best to advance your instrumental talent/vocal talent, that you promote your band the best that you can through your MUSIC, and that you’re selling your shows out. Facebook fans are NOT real fans. Your real fans are the ones at your shows, buying your music, and showing you support on the road!

Industry Tip #2

Stay professional if you want to be treated professional. Don’t hit up graphic designers / venues / booking agents if you don’t intend to go through with whatever you’re getting them a hold of for.

Industry Tip #1

You get what you pay for goes for your band too. Find a good graphic design / photographer / videographer / etc.  Giving your band a good look behind your music will help bring fans in.  Fans don’t want to buy shirts that look stupid! Get a good graphic designer. Make sure those designs are timeless!
